Tuition for lessons/classes is different from an hourly fee for services rendered (like babysitting). Music lesson tuition is similar to that of other industries providing classes (such as dance, tumbling, martial arts, exercise classes, school tuition, etc.).

Tuition is paid 48 hours in advance of a single lesson and 5 days prior to the 1st of the month for ongoing weekly lessons. It is an industry practice that for student cancellations for any reason (doctors' appointments, illness, holidays, parties, etc.) no refunds or credits will be provided as classes are scheduled and teachers are reserved based on enrollment.

Teachers spend many waking hours in concern for their students, both in their learning challenges and achievements. Teachers consistently mull over problems and possible solutions, research pieces to fit students, prepare special lessons, and so on.

Cancellations and no-shows that aren't paid in advance – result in the teacher being left vulnerable to prepare to teach a lesson that may not happen.

Cancellations are generally given with short notice and, in turn, make it difficult to book another lesson in the time slot. Many students are not willing to book a lesson in a different time slot each week, so a single canceled lesson slot can be very difficult to fill.

Teachers earn their sole living or supplement their income, by teaching. If they count on the income from the lessons that are scheduled and if one or more students cancel, their income is reduced, creating a hardship. The Candyman greatly appreciates your understanding that their time is valuable.

Consistency in lessons is crucial for student progress, and our teachers do their best to minimize cancellations. If a teacher needs to cancel a lesson, they are required to give ample notice whenever possible. In such cases, we will attempt to provide a substitute teacher upon request. If a substitute is unavailable or not requested, the lesson will be canceled, and a credit will be issued. This credit will be automatically applied to the next billing cycle.

Our policy ensures that students are not financially impacted by a teacher’s cancellation. However, it’s important to note that when students cancel lessons, teachers are left without compensation. Without a policy to address this, multiple cancellations in a pay period could create financial hardship for our instructors. This is why our cancellation policy is structured to support both students and teachers fairly.

Due to the dynamic nature of our private lesson program, all registration, scheduling, invoicing and tuition payments are handled using My Music Staff online software. We will not store or collect your payment card details. That information is provided directly to our third-party payment processors whose use of your personal information is governed by their Privacy Policy. These payment processors adhere to the standards set by PCI-DSS as managed by the PCI Security Standards Council, which is a joint effort of brands like Visa, Mastercard, American Express and Discover. PCI-DSS requirements help ensure the secure handling of payment information.

The Candyman utilizes Stripe for its online transactions. Stripe has been audited by a PCI-certified auditor and is certified to PCI Service Provider Level 1. This is the most stringent level of certification available in the payments industry. To accomplish this, they make use of best-in-class security tools and practices to maintain a high level of security.

Their secure server layer (SSL) software completely encrypts the information we input so that it cannot be read. They have extremely strong security measures in place to protect against the loss, misuse, or alteration of your information.

If a student becomes ill or injured on the day of the lesson, The Candyman requests that we be contacted right away so that we may let the teacher know and release the studio from the reservation. Due to the urgency, we ask that same-day cancellations be notified by phone or text at 505-699-7513 Monday through Friday or 505-983-5906 on the weekends during retail business hours 10-6 Monday through Friday or 12-5 on Sunday.

If a student does not arrive for a lesson and has not contacted The Candyman with notification that they will miss the lesson, the lesson fee will be forfeited. However, The Candyman staff becomes concerned with a student’s well-being if they are a no-show and will likely reach out to the student by phone.

The Candyman does remit email and/or text reminders to students the day prior to the lesson. These reminders may be requested or unsubscribed easily according to the student preference.

Student cancellation notification provides the education staff the ability to release the reserved studio and teacher from the schedule. We also care about our students and become concerned if there is a no-show.

The Candyman does not provide refunds for lessons scheduled for the following reasons:

• The Teachers have planned their time, lesson plan, and finances accordingly.

• Reserved studio/teaching times that become available due to canceled lessons may not be able to be re-booked in order to recover income.

•  Classes/lessons are scheduled and teachers are reserved based on enrollment.

• Teachers spend many waking-hours in concern for their students, both in their learning challenges and achievements. Teachers consistently mull over problems and possible solutions, research pieces to fit students, prepare special lessons, and so on.

• Cancellations and no-shows that aren't paid in advance – result in the teacher left vulnerable to prepare to teach a lesson that may not happen.

• Cancellations are generally given with short notice and, in turn, make it difficult to book another lesson in the time slot. Many students are not willing to book a lesson in a different time slot each week, so a single canceled lesson slot can be very difficult to fill.

• Teachers earn their sole living, or supplement their income, by teaching. If they count on the income from the lessons that are scheduled and if one or more students cancel, their income is reduced, creating a hardship. The Candyman greatly appreciates your understanding that their time is valuable.

• Labor fees and credit card fees are incurred for lessons administration. 

~ Unused credit(s) on a student account may be applied to in-store purchases.

We encourage open communication between student/parent/guardian and Teachers! Parents should plan to check in with the teacher at the lesson start/finish to discuss student progress, assignments, etc.

It is up to the sole discretion of each Teacher to provide students with personal contact information for communication between lessons.

Communication about lessons administration, billing, and scheduling must be handled by The Candyman's education staff.
