How it Works

Performers will be provided a private link and password to access our Zoom Room where they will perform.

The Open Mic will be streamed live on The Candyman Facebook Page where the community audience can comment, react, and interact with the performers. After the live-stream, the video will live on the Facebook page so it can be viewed over and over.

When to Join the Zoom Room

Join the Zoom Room 15-30 minutes before the event (5:00pm - 5:15pm) so the emcee can see you, do a sound check, and work out any kinks. The live-stream starts promptly at 5:30pm, so those that log-on after 5:15pm may not be able to perform.

Performance Length

Performances should last approximately 5 minutes. If there is a low number of performers, more time may be allotted.

​

Performing with Others

Unfortunately, varying bandwidths will not allow band mates to perform together from different locations. You may collaborate with your band to do a recording and submit a YouTube video link to play during the show.

 

Set Your Background

Be sure what the audience can see behind you is pleasing and you aren't sitting in front of a window. Sunlight coming in toward you is the best light, but if you don't have that, just be sure you have some kind of light shining on your beautiful selves.

Contribute to the Live Audience

Only the performers will be in the Zoom Room, so they, along with the emcee, will serve as the live audience. All performers will unmute their microphone at the end of each performance to clap/whistle and verbally acknowledge each performance. Just like a live audience at a live show!

Feel Free to Chat with the Facebook Audience

Once you are introduced don’t feel like you have to break right in to your song right away. You are welcome to say whatever it is that you’d like. Introduce yourself, your song, plug your business/music, etc. Whatever you’d like as long as it doesn’t put you too much over your time limit.

Tune In To Facebook

If you have a second device, please feel free to watch the live-stream on our Facebook Page so that you can see what the audience is saying and interact with them by posting comments too. (If you do this, be sure the live-streamed video sound is turned down during your performance.)

For Minor Performers

Be sure your parent/legal guardian is with you at all times while participating in the Online Open Mic.

Please Keep it Clean

Kids and families may be participating or watching.

More Information about Zoom

Performers must download the free and basic version of Zoom to their computer, smartphone, tablet, or iPad with some way to broadcast audio and video (either built in or plug in). Computers/Laptops are the most efficient to use for Zoom and will free up other device(s) to watch and interact with the live-stream on Facebook. 

​

For anyone who hasn't used an online format like Zoom before and are experiencing anxiety, there may be an opportunity to do a test run with Cindy before the day of the performance. Just email her at cindy@candymansf.com with your request.

Muting and Unmuting Your Microphone

Be sure to mute your microphone when you’re not performing or clapping for a performer.

 

Enhancing Sound for Your Performance

Once you are in the Zoom Room, you can change your audio settings for better sound for performing music. It’s not required, but the defaults are set for speaking. You may set your audio settings as follows:

• Uncheck the box, “Automatically Adjust Volume”

• In Advanced Settings, check “Enable Original Sound”

• Disable Suppress Background Noise

The Line-Up

Once I've got a final list, I'll send an email with the order in which everyone will perform. Let me know if you need to go earlier or later if you have something else planned, otherwise performers should plan to stay until everyone has performed.
